omg. i can not tell a lie. this cover of Duffy's Mercy, blows the original to shame. I immediately had to order the limited ed "45" (it's vinyl only). I don't actually have a record player tho ... so I'll figure the rest out later... :P

Take a listen!

The catalogue of the label (Acid Jazz) is too freakin' awesome. Momma gonna buy buy buy! There goes my 'allowance' this month :D Man I love when music gets me this giddy!!!

So... Trinidad in a strange inversion of the Justice League has been cozying up to China in recent years. Getting mad grants and importing mad amounts of Chinese labourers for government building projects. The justification is that they work harder and more reliably than 'locals' .. thanks Prime Minister!!! They form strange anonymous villages and much goes on about exactly how much they get paid and whether or not they fall under our labour laws and such (i suspect not). They don't speak much (any) English, but apparently being here for some time is starting to rub off on them and they are becoming Trinified!!! Signing up to play Carnival, joining steelbands and more... oh the lolz!!!

Check out this recent post from the 'fake' blog of our Prime Minister (hilarious satire, however apparently it has come to the attention of his office and he is none too pleased.. ugh)

Coconut Vendor, originally uploaded by Tuluum.

Yesterday on Twitter I learnt about a photo event called "One Day In The Life Of...". My interest was immediately piqued as Ilove taking random photo essays of the world around me. So, I joined the group, loaded fresh batteries in my camera and clicked away yesterday.

If you're interested in checking out what I was up to you can view the gallery via the image above :)

Anti-Conservatism lyrics, apocalyptic imagery and an amazing guitar solo make this one of my fave Suede tracks ever! :)

Trinidad Sada Roti

Sada Roti (bread): This is a plain roti, made of white flour. Because it is the simplest roti to make, it is the most commonly consumed roti in Trinidad. It is a popular breakfast option in Trinidad, in combination with tomato choka, baigan choka (eggplant), and other vegetable dishes.

Pelau (in this fashion) is one of the national dishes of my country. This is my dad's version :) Marinated chicken is browned in sugar and then stewed to perfection with sauteed onion, garlic, pigeon peas, tomato, rice and tons of cooking margarine. Yum!
